Rolls-Royce is one of the leading providers of jet engines to the global aerospace industry, supporting many markets including military, civil and corporate aerospace. With almost 13,000 engines in service globally, Rolls-Royce has customers in more than 150 countries, comprising more than 400 airlines and leasing customers. The Trent engine program commenced in 1995 and today comprises six engines.
The Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 is designed and optimized for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and delivers fuel burn, quietness and reliability for which Rolls-Royce is respected and recognized. All this performance comes in quite a large package: The Trent 1000 has a fan diameter of 112 inches and weighs about 6 tones. A Trent 1000 at maximum take-off generates over 50.000 horsepower – equivalent to 68 Formula 1 racing cars. The engine is made up of around 18,000 individual components. Capitalizing on the architecture and technologies of previous generations of Trent engine, the Trent 1000 has been designed and optimized to power the whole Boeing 787 Dreamliner family of aircraft, with availability on the 787-8, 787-9 and 787-10 models being announced since Entry Into Service in 2011.
Transporting aero engines by air, land or sea is unfortunately necessary and very challenging, due to the complexity, size and weight of these jet engines. Rolls-Royce’s Trent 1000 engine weighs about 6 tones. So it needs dedicated and reliable equipment for safe transportation and peace of mind. That’s what HYDRO engine transportation stands are for.
Safeguarding your valuable engine assets requires a whole chain of events to be carefully managed, which is simplest with a HYDRO engine transportation stand at the very heart of your operation. Our products stand between our customer’s engine and potential harm. We ensure every detail delivers simple operation and total safety, paired with extreme robustness for the harshest conditions. HYDRO engine transportation stands provide safety and reliability during transportation, and also during installation to or removal of engines from the aircraft wing by bootstrapping or by other methods such as the HYDRO Cobra system. Our engine stands are developed to isolate your jet engine from harm by vibration and shock and are designed and qualified with the associated jet engine OEM, ensuring the stands we supply you are fully endorsed by the engine manufacturer.
Over the years, HYDRO has set the standard for safe engine transportation and was selected in 2010 to become the approved supplier of engine transportation stands for the Trent 1000 engine to Rolls-Royce and their customers. At the end of last month, the second generation APS (All-Purpose Stand) for Trent 1000 started rolling off the production line in our facility in Auburn, WA, USA. The first customers who will take delivery of these second generation APS will be Rolls-Royce, El Al, Air New Zeeland, and Air China. This new transportation stand has a number of new features that will deliver increased value to our customers.
Specific changes integrated into our second generation Trent 1000 engine transportation stand, including significant weight reduction, allow operators to reduce the cost of freighting an engine in these stands.
In order to reduce freight charges experienced by operators of the Trent 1000 engine, the second generation Trent 1000 APS transportation stand has had weight removed. That directly saves logistic costs. Additionally the engine transportation stand has been awarded a Supplemental Type Certification (STC) for freight in a 747 Freighter. This STC allows a reduced foot print for airfreight by using the freighter floor locks instead of tie down rings. That means the operator only has to pay for one pallet space instead of the usual four spaces. A huge saving. This second generation engine stand remains fully compatible with our engine change system COBRA.
The HYDRO Seattle facility is dedicated to the serial production of engine transportation stands. This state-of-the-art, lean factory ensures world-class on-time delivery of new stands to our customers. Robotic-welding, laser-tracked inspection and dedicated assembly technicians help ensure complete reliability and quality.
All our engine transportation stands are supported by ten strategically located service stations around the world. So why accept any risk at all? Entrust us with your engine transportation – simply the safest way.
