EJAL tripod-jack set for a very special aircraft
Leipzig/Halle airport (LEJ) is Germany's 11th largest airport by passenger numbers, handling more than 2.61 million passengers in 2019 mainly with flights to European leisure destinations. In terms of cargo traffic, the airport is the fifth-busiest in Europe and the second-busiest in Germany after Frankfurt Airport, handling 1,238,343 metric tonnes of cargo in 2019.
Antonov Logistics Salis GmbH located in Schkeudiz (Leipzig, Germany) conducts, supports and sells charter transports and regular transport of goods via airfreight, mainly with Antonov aircraft.
The AN-124, also called “Ruslan”, has a take-off weight of almost 400 t. It is the smaller version of the AN-225 that brought 10 million protective masks to Germany in April this year to fight the Corona pandemic. Recently Antonov Logistics Salis received a special tripod-jack set. It is a customized solution, to serve the Antonov AN-124. Each of the three tripod-jacks can lift up to 90 tons. The whole set is an EJAL system, which automatically control the entire set of tripod-jacks during the lifting and lowering process of the aircraft. The EJAL system tries to avoid human errors, which might lead to uncontrolled situations during the jacking of the AN-124, and reduces the time for the whole jacking procedure of the aircraft significantly.
To operate the EJAL system in a most efficient way the Antonov Logistics crew did receive an in-depth training.
